Veterinary Services
At Pet Medical Center we offer a wide variety of veterinary services using many of the latest technologies available to our field of care.
Laser Surgery
Pet Medical Center now offers the option to use a surgical laser for most surgeries. The advantages of laser surgery are tremendous. The laser seals nerve endings thereby reducing pain. The laser also cauterizes blood vessels, which limits bleeding and gives the surgeon a clearer surgical field. This makes surgery safer and pets tend to recover more rapidly than seen with a traditional scalpel blade.
Digital Radiology (X-Ray)
Direct Capture Digital Radiology has many advantages over traditional film radiographs. First, our staff can view your pet's x-ray in about eight seconds rather than the five minutes it takes to process film. Thus, our staff can quickly determine, without moving your pet, if another x-ray needs to be taken to improve the positioning. Pets receive less radiation as fewer retakes are needed to adjust brightness, contrast and other settings. Digital radiography is particularly beneficial in emergency situations when time can be a matter of life and death. Digital radiology is also a green technology that eliminates the use of heavy metal (silver on the film) and the chemicals to develop and fix the image on film. Radiology, or X-rays, help our veterinarians evaluate musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, cardiopulmonary, gastrointestinal, reproductive, and urinary systems.
Behavioral Medicine
Kemlyn Block-Stockstill, CPDT, has a special interest in behavior counseling. A consultation with Kemlyn can help determine the cause of disorders, such as separation anxiety and obsessive behavior, and develop a treatment regimen for your pet.
Blood Transfusions
We have donor pets available for blood transfusion. We maintain a list of veterinary staff members who will allow their pets to donate blood for other pets as needs arise. Major blood type cross matching is performed before a donor's blood is transfused into a patient.
Dental Care
Regular professional cleaning is important to maintaining your pet's teeth. We use modern and safe sonic scaling to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Since most dental disease happens blow the gum line, it is imperative to clean below the gum line. Also since disease often occurs below the gumline x-rays of pet's teeth are vital. We use digital dental radiography, the most modern technique available. Dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface that is more resistant to plaque buildup. Ora Vet, a wax sealant is applied to the teeth to further inhibit the accumulation of plaque and tartar.
Emergency and Critical Care
In any emergency, seconds count. Our experienced staff is trained in resuscitation and our clinic is stocked and equipped to administer the ABCs of life support – Airway, Breathing, Circulation/Cardiac compressions. Emergency care is offered during regular business hours at our hospital, for after hours emergency care call 507-454-2600.
Endoscopy
High-tech fiber optics permit direct visual examination and biopsies of your pet's gastrointestinal system without the need for surgery. This technology (1) allows for more accurate diagnosis and treatment of the oral, esophageal, stomach, colon and even upper intestinal tract disease and (2) it aids in the removal of foreign objects.
